Scope of work

  • Achieving compliance with the relevant EU standards in terms of recovery materials and energy, diversion of biodegradable waste from landfills and adequate final disposal of waste.
  • Reducing environmental and health risks in highly contaminated lands. With regards to the oil and gas project, the projects in the JASPERS assignment involve improvement in the operation of the systems and security of supply.
  • Compliance with the relevant standards in terms of emissions from large combustion plants.
  • Production of energy from renewable sources.

 

Number of JASPERS assignments in the solid waste and energy sector

Between 1 January and 31 December 2009 JASPERS completed 22 assignments in the solid waste and energy sector. The Action Plans agreed for 2009 with beneficiary countries included 85 sikud waste and energy projects, of which 54 were for solid waste and 31 for energy, for an estimated investment cost of about EUR 6.3bn. Most of the assignments were concentrated in Romania, Bulgaria and Poland.
