Number of JASPERS assignments in the urban development sector
Between 1 January and 31 December 2009, 25 projects were completed in the urban infrastructures and services (urban development) sector and JASPERS was active on 81 assignments, supporting projects with a total investment cost of some EUR 6.6bn. Active assignments included 34 in the urban transport sector, 15 in energy efficiency/district heating, 9 in R&D, 12 culture assignments, 6 in the ICT area and 5 other assignments. The highest number of completions was recorded in Poland (12) and Romania (7).
With a view to establishing a more structured approach towards raising interest and increasing assignments in the knowledge sector, the idea of splitting the Urban Infrastructure and Service sector in two was discussed in 2009.The option suggested was to have one team focussing on urban infrastructure and the other covering knowledge-economy projects. At the same time, it was proposed to incorporate work related to district heating into the solid waste and energy sector.
